Thursday Update!

¡Ay dios! Time for an update! I haven't had time to blog lately because life here has been crazy busy, but amazing. Let me start from where I left off:

Thursday: If I had to name one of the best nights of all time in my life, I think Thursday night would win. First, we got to go to Palermo-SoHo (just a few blocks from my host apartment) to learn to tango! Tango originated in Argentina, and is a big passion here. Our tango instructors taught us just some basic moves, which were very difficult! After the lessons, the dance floor was open to anyone who wanted to go out and tango freely. I wasn't planning on dancing anymore, as I felt I had enough of trying (and failing) and the difficult task. But suddenly, a man approached me and asked me to tango...ahhh! I flat out told him (in Spanish), "Okay...but I'm really not any good!", but it didn't matter. His name was Alejandro, he was from Buenos Aires, and often comes to the tango house in the evenings to dance. I admit, I was a little freaked out about dancing with this native Porteño, but I figured it would just be one song. Alejandro was nice and made small talk, but was a little frustrated every time I'd make a wrong step. However, we was very patient and gave me even more tango lessons! We ended up dancing for 30-45 minutes; by the end, we were doing spins and fancy leg pops! Woo! Haha, it was a very unique experience to say the least!

Tango dancing in Argentina with a local. Never thought I'd do that!

After the tango, Anissa and I stayed to learn to salsa dance. Salsa was a little easier, and more upbeat than tango, which I loved. This time, I ended up dancing with some other older locals (who at least were salsa beginners like me), as well as a man from India. After salsa-ing for a bit, Anissa and I went back to our apartment before heading out for the "big night".

The "big night" was the Buenos Aires International Student Night Pub Crawl. It was an organized pub crawl that stopped at 3 bars, and a club. Although almost all the ISA students were going, I still went  a little hesitant and ready to leave if it looked shady. However, it was very well organized, with workers who made sure we got around safely and even helped direct traffic so we could cross streets. The deal of the pub crawl was that we got unlimited pizza and drinks for the first hour, a shot at each bar when we arrived, and free entrance to the club (all for about $12 American dollars!). Although I didn't drink much, I still had the time of my life! It was fun going from bar to bar with my friends, just relaxing, talking, and oh yeah...dancing on tables! After the bars, we made our way to Club 69 at 2:30 a.m., a club that I had heard was really cool. I was excited to go, but didn't expect what was there!

Club 69 is one of the "hottest" spots in town, especially on a Thursday night. They have two stage shows in the main room, one hip hop themed, and the other inspired by traditional cabaret. It was insane! We walked in, the music was blaring, the lights were flashing, and sexy dancers dressed as jungle animals were dancing all over the main stage. The madness continued; the music was great, people were happy, and go-go dancers were being pushed around on a mini-portable stage all over the dance floor. After watching the go-go dancers for a while, suddenly, a group of rappers came on stage and preformed. All night long, there was a lot of dancing, yelling, and laughing. We finally left at 3:30ish in the morning (remember- this is considered leaving "early" for the culture here), only because we still had class in the morning! Ay! Anissa and I got back home a little after 4:00, and after 3 hours of sleep, I did make it to class the next day without sleeping through the lessons!
